The identification keys provided are only valid for Germany and some neighbouring countries because other taxa, occurring in other regions, e.g. the subfamilies Apocleinae, Trigonomiminae, Ommatiinae, are not dealt with and the applied characters are insufficient to identify these taxa. The classification of higher taxa (subfamilies, tribes, genera) in Asilidae is only poorly known. Therefore, it is possible that future studies will present a different classification scheme.
