Key for the Leptarthrus-species

back to the key to Dasypogoninae start of the key

The two species occurring in Central Europe are distributed boreo-alpine and inhabit marshy places in the mountains from an altitude of 500 m above sea level. L. vitripennis is much rarer than L. brevirostris and only few details on its biology are known. A table for comparison of taxa is provided on this CD-ROM.

1 a. Face with a distinct but flattened facial gibbosity (in lateral view) [Fig. 1]; scutum with long hairs [Fig. 2]; males: hind metatarsus narrow and extremely elongated
Fig. 1: Leptarthrus brevirostris: Head - lateral   Fig. 2: Leptarthrus brevirostris: Scutum - lateral
1 b. Face without any facial gibbosity (in lateral view) [Fig. 3]; scutum with only short hairs [Fig. 4]; males: hind metatarsus of usual shape
Fig. 3: Leptarthrus vitripennis: Head - lateral   Fig. 4: Leptarthrus vitripennis: Scutum - lateral
